Volunteering

Our volunteers play a vital role in developing a sense of community in our service. They bring their own skills and experiences and work alongside our existing staff. Volunteering can be a really rewarding, useful experience and there's more ways of doing it than you might think.
You can get involved in anything from:
  • Assisting in Reloved Café.
  • Working in our main office at Coatham House.
  • Running a activity groups like art workshops or cooking with our residents.
  • Helping to raise funds.

Our volunteers gain through work experience & training.

Reloved Cafe

Coatham House operates a café in Redcar High Street called ‘Reloved’.  This provides volunteering and training opportunities for people of all ages who would like to consider a career in the hospitality and catering industry or would just like an opportunity to improve their employment prospect by gaining some voluntary experience.  The café provides a free hot meal to each of Coatham’s supported housing service users.

Sarah - My Volunteering Experience

Picture
I am volunteering for Coatham house, alongside my degree to help me get experience and get my foot in the door with possible clientele. Coatham House is a charity run business which I hold close to my heart and being able to help out is a great accomplishment of mine.

I aspire to be a social worker and Coatham House has many benefits to help me gain knowledge and assist me in working professionally with service users. From meeting with clients to working in partnership with different agencies, I have experienced and acknowledged how these all run and benefit the clients. By having knowledge of these agencies it will benefit me as a social worker to know of these places and have a professional relationship with them. Not only does it give me experience it has also given me the chance to work hands-on alongside the team.

Coatham House is helping me thrive through my placement and giving me as much experience as they can on my days in. Seeing their care and compassion for their service users makes me want to participate even more and makes coming to placement a content experience.

Cooking with David

Picture
David is working with us as part of the Kickstarter initiative. He is receiving training from us and has been offering support to our young people, particularly with healthy eating. David has been creating recipes, and fact sheets to go with them that help people to eat healthily on a low budget. He supports our clients shopping at the community grocers and helps them to turn the produce into delicious meals.
